A sake cup that produces sounds reminiscent of birdsong when used. The uguisu (Japanese bush warbler), also known as the “harbinger of spring,” has long been cherished in Japan for its beautiful song that signals the arrival of spring.
While uguisu sakazuki (sake cups) are crafted in various regions, this particular piece is Kutani ware, made in Kutani Village, Ishikawa Prefecture. Nestled deep in the mountains and often snowbound during winter, the villagers of Kutani may have shared drinks with an uguisu sakazuki, eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring.
When drinking, try placing your lips on the side with the small hole to fully appreciate its unique charm.
