A sake cup created by Kazuyuki Yanase, renowned for creating traditional Japanese kaiseki and kappo tableware.
The shape, called 椀形 (wan-nari), refers to the form of wooden bowls used for serving rice or miso soup. The wide rim enhances the aromatic experience.
The Kintsugi line stretching from the base to the rim resembles lightning cutting through an overcast sky,
leading me to name this piece “稲妻 (Inazuma, lightning)” as a Kintsugi work.
This practice of interpreting accidental cracks as meaningful patterns or imbuing them with stories is called mitate—a fascinating aspect of Kintsugi that adds depth and character to the art.
